"Cello" 18" x 14" Oil on Canvas
"Cello" was accepted into the Real People 2013 National Juried Exhibition at the Old Court House Arts Center in Woodstock, IL.  The show runs Thursday, August 8 - Saturday, September 29, 2013.  I recently described the young model, a student at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, as an overachiever.  She allowed her right arm to be propped up so that I could paint her as though she was playing the cello.  Whenever possible, she would drop her left arm down to give it a rest.  She had a strong desire to get the pose right every time she returned from a break.  Paintings completed in one session are sometimes called "alla prima" which is a term used to describe direct painting in which every brush stroke counts.
